Each volume includes an every-name index and a table of contents. Vol. 1-14 have separate indexes; later volumes include the index at the end of each fourth issue.

A dual numbering system is used. Number designations on covers vary from numbering designations on title pages, especially where a full year's issues and index are combined into one issue.

Volume numbering errors: Vol. 8 issue 4 = no. 32 (May 1986) was misnumbered as vol. 4 issue 4 = no. 16 (May 1986). Vol. 13 issue 4 = no. 52 was misnumbered as vol. 19. Vol. 13 Index (1990-1991) was misprinted as vol. 19 Index. Vol. 14 index was misnumbered as vol. 12 index. Vol. 15 issue 2 = no. 58 was misnumbered as vol. 15 issue 1.

Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Russell (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from England, Germany, Ireland, Normandy, Scotland, and Wales. Some allied families came from Africa, France, and Norway. In the 1600s, some ancestors immigrated to Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Virginia . In the 1700s, some settled in Kentucky, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vermont. During the 1800s, some moved to Australia, Canada (especially Nova Scotia), and to Alabama, the Arizona Territory, Arkansas, California, the Dakota Territory, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico Territory, Ohio, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin. Some were Quakers. Some were Loyalists. Information is given for slaves who may have taken the surname Russell. Later descendants also lived in Louisiana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Washington, and elsewhere. Information is extracts and transcripts of Bible records, biographies, birth records, cemetery inscriptions, census records, church records, court records, death records, deeds, directories, immigration records, land records, letters, marriage records, military records, parish records, obituaries, probates, tax records, vital records, wills, and other published works. Dates covered are from 1021 through the 1900s.
