Numbering Peculiarities
Preliminary issue was numbered vol. 1 no. 1/2 [one half] (Oct 1963). Some numbering errors: Vol. 2 no. 7 (May 1965) was misprinted as (June 1965); and vol. 3 no. 6 (Apr 1966) was misprinted as vol. 3 no. 7. Unnumbered issue [vol. 7 no. 3] was dated (July 1973), and was the issue following vol. 7 no. 2 (Dec. 1972). Vol. 7 no. 5 was probably never published. Unnumbered [vol. 7 no. 9] was a letter from Secretary dated Jan 1975). Vol. 29 no. 4 (Dec 1996) is a title page only in the same issue as vol. 1 no. 1 (Dec 1996) of its continuing edition, called Pipkin Family Association newsletter, Chapter 2.
Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Pipkin (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from England, France, Scotland, and Wales. Focus is on the descendants of John Pipkin (ca. 1675-1745) who lived in Virginia, and moved to Nansemond County, North Carolina in 1704. He and his wife, Martha moved to Chowan County, North Carolina, where most of their children were born. Some of their children and grandchildren were John Jr., Joseph, Jesse, Isaac, Stephen, Steward, Mary, Lewis, Daniel, Martha, James, and William Harvey. Pipkins settled in Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia in the 1700s. During the 1800s, some moved to Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah. Some joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and moved to Utah with the Latter-day Saint pioneers. Others belonged to the Methodist, Baptist, and other churches. Some married into the Choctaw, Cherokee, and other American Indian tribes, and lived in the Choctaw and Chickasaw Territories of Oklahoma. Many served in the military. Later descendants also lived in Italy, and in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and elsewhere. Includes some slave names, also names of adopted persons.
