Description
Wolfert Gerritsen van Kouwenhaoven (1584-1661) was born near Amersfoort, Holland, and married Neeltje Jansen there in 1605. They and their three sons immigrated to America in 1625 and settled at New Amsterdam. He later bought land on Long Island. Record chiefly traces line of descent to John Harden Conover (1846-1928) of the 8th generation. He was born in Wooland Township, Fulton County, Illinois, the son of Levi P. and Margaret Wilson Conover. He married Martha Tillie Bennett (1849-1930) in 1868 in Fulton County. They had five children, 1869-1886. The family moved to Washington County, Kansas, in 1878 and to Woodson County, Kansas, in 1890. John and Tille Conover are buried in the Yates Center, Kansas, Cemetery. Descendants lived in Kansas, California, Colorado, Texas, Alberta, and elsewhere.
