Melville Ward Bever was born in 1871 in Indiana. He moved with his family to Nebraska where he met and married Lula Alice Burg in 1893. They eventually settled in Thomas County, Kansas. Their descendants are traced, but most of the book traces his ancestry.

William Williams immigrated to Virginia and settled in Grayson County. He was the father of three children, one of whom was Thomas (b. ca. 1732-1790). He was the father of six children. One of his descendants was John Williams (1866-1927) who married Mittie Eaton and they eventually moved form Tennessee to Oklahoma. They were the parents of 12 children. Evan McBroom (1800-1828) and his wife, Nancy, had four children, 1823- 1828. Their daughter, Arrena, married Charles Lewis Haynes. They had twelve children, 1850-1872.

William Henry Kirkman (1860-1939) was the son of Bartley William Kirkman and Nancy Watkins of Shelbyville, Shelby County, Illinois. He married two times: 1) Della Retta Tripp in 1881 and 2) Myrtle Gertrude Guinn in 1903. Della died in 1898. Three sons and one daughter made up the first family. Description
John Lawless I (d.ca.1847) served with Virginia troops in the Revolutionary War for three years, and later moved from Fauquier County, Virginia to Bourbon (later Pendleton) and Grant Counties, Kentucky. He married Mary Stoddard in 1780, and John Lawless II (d.1865) was one of their nine children. Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma and elsewhere.

Samuel Maxwell was born 25 July 1781. He married Martha A. Patton (1780-1848) in about 1802, in Montgomery County, Virginia. They had eleven children. Samuel died 22 May 1848 in Baxter, Tennessee. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Tennessee.

William Ap Thomas immigrated (probably from Wales) to Elizabeth and Essex Counties, Virginia between 1637 and 1665. Ezekiel Thomas (1840-1917) and John Thomas (1846-1928) were direct descendants who moved from Georgia to Texas.
