Samuel Maxwell was born 25 July 1781. He married Martha A. Patton (1780-1848) in about 1802, in Montgomery County, Virginia. They had eleven children. Samuel died 22 May 1848 in Baxter, Tennessee. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Tennessee.

William Ap Thomas immigrated (probably from Wales) to Elizabeth and Essex Counties, Virginia between 1637 and 1665. Ezekiel Thomas (1840-1917) and John Thomas (1846-1928) were direct descendants who moved from Georgia to Texas. Descendants of William Ap Thomas lived Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas, California, Oregon, Washington and elsewhere.

John Swetland (1603-1685) and his brothers, Thomas (b.1609) and James, three sons of Isaac (b.1560), emigrated from England to America about the middle of the seventeenth century. John married twice and died at Providence, Rhode Island.
