The United Church of Canada was formed June 10, 1925 by the union of the Methodist and Congregational churches and seventy percent of the Presbyterian churches.
The circuits covered primarily Stormont County localities in Finch Township and Roxborough Township including Finch, Avonmore, Berwick, Goldfield, Crysler, and Gravel Hill. Also included Grantley which is in both Dundas and Stormont counties.

David Cooke, son of Charles and Anne (Greene) Cooke was born in 1779 in Coventry, Rhode Island and later moved to New York. He later settled in Illinois ca. 1839 and then Iowa in 1853. Descendants lived in New York, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Oregon, Illinois, Kansas, and elsewhere. Descendants changed name to "Cook".

Jane Mills, born in 1869, married John Finch in 1897 at Reigate Parish Church, Surrey, England. Descendants lived in Buckinghamshire and Surrey, while one branch of the Mills family immigrated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada. In 1974, when this history of Janes Finch's life was prepared, she was looking forward to her 105th birthday.
