The United Church of Canada was formed June 10, 1925 by the union of the Methodist and Congregational churches and seventy percent of the Presbyterian churches. The circuits covered primarily Stormont County localities in Finch Township and Roxborough Township including Finch, Avonmore, Berwick, Goldfield, Crysler, and Gravel Hill. Also included Grantley which is in both Dundas and Stormont counties.

Henry Finch married Alice Bucher in St. Thomas Dudley in 1548. They had seven children. He died in 1573. Descendants and relatives lived in Worcestershire, Cambridgeshire, London, Lancashire and elsewhere.

Daniel Finch was born in England about 1580 and emigrated from York Co., England, with his son Abraham, arriving in America 22 June 1630. He served on a jury at Boston in 1631.
