Description
History of the John Hertzler family, who lived in Lancaster Co., Pa. neas Millersville about 1800. They are descendants of Hans Hertzler born ca. 1700 in Switzerland. He came to America in 1750 from Rotterdam, Holland, and settled in Lancaster County. He was of Mennonite Faith. John Hertzler was born 1773. He was married to May Brubaker. Family members are Mennonites and live in Pennsylvania and elsewhere.

William Robb was born in 1824 in New Hampshire of Dutch descent. Helen McLean was born in 1831 near Mammouth Cave in Kentucky. They met and were married at Chester, Illinois, in 1849. They had six children, 1850-1864. The family lived near Breckenridge, Illinois, until 1855, when they migrated to Wayne County, Iowa. He died in 1901. Most descendants listed lived in Iowa.

Jacob Hertzler was born in 1703 in Switzerland. He married there twice, and immigrated via France, Holland and England to Berne (now Upper Berne) Township, Berks Co., Pennsylvania. He died in 1786. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and elsewhere.

Anabaptist preacher Hans Zaug was born about 1630 near Bern, Switzerland. He and his family moved to the Palatinate of Germany. Eleven Zug immigrants (some of them probably sons of Hans) immigrated to Pennsylvania between 1727 and 1754.

Jacob Sierer (1713-1785) and his family emigrated in 1743 from Alsace in Germany (via Rotterdam) to Philadelphia. Jacob settled in Bethel Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, and married four times (three times in Pennsylvania). Two of his sons, John and George, served in the Recolutionary War. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Idaho, Washington, Hawaii, Alaska, California and elsewhere.

Johannes Hertzler was born in Swwitzerland. In 1870 he brought his wife, three sons, and his father to America settling in Pennsylvania. Information on many of his descendants is given in this volume. Many of these individuals belonged to Mennonite groups. Peter Hartline was born 5 June 1788 probably in Germany and died 17 March 1837 in Franklin Township, Tuscarawas, Ohio. He married (1) Christena Palmer, daughter of George M. Palmer and Mary Houseman, 6 April 1817 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. She died 15 May 1826. Peter married (2) Regina Pfersich 3 July 1827.
