Description
Joseph Hewes, signer of the Declaration of Independence from North Carolina, was the son of Aaron and Providence Hewes. He was the accepted suitor of Isabella, the sister of Samuel Johnston. She died just previous to their marriage and Joseph soon followed her to the grave. He died 10 November 1779 in Philadelphia.

Description
George Abbott (1615-1681) immigrated from England to Roxbury, Massachusetts, and was married to Hanna Chandler in 1646 by John Eliot, the apostle to the Indians. They settled at Andover, Massachusetts. The author, Sydney Howard Carney, Jr., was a direct descendant in the ninth generation. Descendants and relatives lived in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and elsewhere.
