Robert Campbell was born about 1718 in Ireland and immigrated to Philadelphia about 1725. He moved to Prince Edward Co., Virginia, where he married Leticia Crockett. They had eleven children, all born in Virginia, where she died. In 1776, he and his family moved to Carter's Valley, Hawkins County, Tennessee. He died 24 Dec. 1810 in Tennessee.
