Biography of Lucas Rauss (1723-1788), who immigrated in 1749 from Austria to Philadelphia, and settled about 1753 in York, Pennsylvania. He married Johanna Sophia Gemling in 1753, and served for a time as a Lutheran minister. Descendants (some spelled the surname Rouse) and relatives lived in Pennsylvania and elsewhere.

Mark Anthony was born Marcos Antonio, son of a Genoese merchant who settled in Holland. As a young man he returned to Italy and, while on his way, was captured by Algerian pirates and was made a slave. He eventually was able to escape onto a British merchant vessel which was in port at the time. The vessel dropped him off in Virginia where he settled before 1690.
