John Damerell (ca. 1695-1759) was born near Exeter, Devonshire, England. He married Elizabeth Tozer in 1727/8. Descendants lived in England, Newfoundland and the United States.

Mark Anthony was born Marcos Antonio, son of a Genoese merchant who settled in Holland. As a young man he returned to Italy and, while on his way, was captured by Algerian pirates and was made a slave. He eventually was able to escape onto a British merchant vessel which was in port at the time. The vessel dropped him off in Virginia where he settled before 1690.
